Support Reading in Bhutan

Supporting Reading Through Bhutanese Stories

Stories can play an important role in helping children develop imagination, empathy, emotional understanding, creativity, and a lifelong love for reading. Through Bhutan Corner’s Reading Initiative, we hope to make Bhutanese storytelling and meaningful reading experiences more accessible to schools, libraries, and young readers.

For individuals, families, visitors to Bhutan, schools, and organizations interested in supporting educational storytelling and reading culture, we have developed a few simple support options below.

The support helps us:

  • Provide books to schools and libraries
  • Expand free classroom reading resources
  • Support reading-based learning activities
  • Promote Bhutanese storytelling and cultural learning
  • Make stories accessible to children in Bhutan and beyond

1. Classroom Reading Set

Suggested Support: USD 80–120

A small classroom reading collection suitable for reading corners, classroom activities, or group reading sessions.

This package may include:

  • 10–15 Bhutanese children’s books
  • Mixed story titles
  • Classroom reading materials where available
  • Activity and reflection resources

Suitable for:

  • Small schools
  • Classroom reading programmes
  • Literacy activities
  • Family or community sponsorship

2. School Library Collection

Suggested Support: USD 180–300

A broader collection designed to support school or community library reading resources.

This package may include:

  • Full collection of available Bhutanese story titles
  • Multiple copies of selected books
  • Reading and activity resources
  • Age-appropriate story selections

Suitable for:

  • School libraries
  • Community libraries
  • Literacy and educational programmes
  • Educational institutions

3. Sponsor a Classroom Reading Experience

Suggested Support: USD 250–500

Support a classroom-based reading activity using Bhutanese stories and educational storytelling materials.

Depending on location and coordination, this may include:

  • Classroom reading sets
  • Reading and reflection activities
  • Story-based educational materials
  • Support for reading sessions with schools or local partners

Our approach focuses on respectful, long-term educational support rather than intrusive or performative activities. In selected cases, simple reading-based cultural exchange activities may be coordinated with schools and communities in an appropriate and thoughtful manner.

Supporting Bhutanese Stories and Culture

While these stories are rooted in Bhutanese culture and values, many of the themes are universal and relatable to children everywhere. Through books, animation, classroom reading resources, and educational storytelling, we hope to share Bhutanese stories with wider audiences while supporting meaningful reading culture.

Several stories are also freely available online through our Classroom Reading resources.
